On-Road Heavy-Duty Diesel Vehicles
The Air Resources Board (ARB) staff is developing a regulation to reduce diesel particulate matter (PM) and other emissions from in-use heavy-duty diesel powered vehicles operating in California. A proposed regulation is planned to be presented to the Air Resources Board in mid-2008. The proposed regulation would apply to diesel shuttle buses and vehicles greater than 14,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) and doesn't include pickups.

What Would it Affect?
- Existing trucks, buses, and other vehicles operating in California
- International, interstate, and intrastate vehicles
- Excludes private-use vehicles with GVWR less than 14,000
pounds
- Vehicle owners and sellers
What Would it Require?
- Phase-in requirements starting December 31, 2010:
• Installation of exhaust retrofit devices
• Replacement with a cleaner engine
• Replacement with a cleaner vehicle
Grant monies available through the Carl Moyer Memorial
Air Quality Standards Attainment Program

Grants are available for projects that: |
- install particle traps
- replace older heavy-duty engines with newer and cleaner engines and add a particle trap
- purchase new vehicles or equipment that is cleaner than the law requires
- replace heavy-duty equipment with electric equipment
- install electric idling-reduction equipment.
