The role of a Heavy-Duty Diesel Mechanic at Steven's Bay Area Diesel Service is pivotal in ensuring the proper functioning, safety, and longevity of customer's light and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment. As a Heavy-Duty Diesel Mechanic, your primary responsibility is to diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel engines, transmissions, and related systems in trucks, trailers, lift gates, and other heavy-duty equipment.
Your duties will include performing diagnostic tests to identify mechanical and electrical issues, troubleshooting problems, conducting repairs and replacements of faulty components, and executing routine preventive maintenance tasks. You'll work with a variety of tools and equipment to address issues such as fuel systems, exhaust systems, brakes, steering, suspension, and electrical systems.
Maintaining accurate records of repairs, maintenance activities, and parts usage is essential, as is adhering to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a secure working environment for yourself and your colleagues. Effective communication with team members, supervisors, and customers is also crucial for coordinating work tasks, sharing knowledge, and providing excellent customer service.
Continuous learning and staying updated on industry trends, advancements in diesel engine technology, and regulatory requirements are integral aspects of the role. By demonstrating expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence, you'll contribute to the overall operational readiness and customer satisfaction of Steven's Bay Area Diesel Service.
Must have a valid driver's license with a clean DMV record.
While not mandatory, completion of mechanical schooling is strongly encouraged.
Performing Diagnostic Tests: Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to identify mechanical, electrical, and other issues affecting the performance of diesel engines, transmissions, and related systems.
Repairing and Maintaining Engines: Conduct repairs and replacements of faulty components in diesel engines, including fuel systems, exhaust systems, cooling systems, and more. Perform regular maintenance tasks to ensure optimal engine performance and longevity.
Troubleshooting Mechanical Problems: Investigate and troubleshoot mechanical problems with heavy-duty vehicles, such as trucks, trailers, lift gates, and boxes. Address issues related to brakes, steering, suspension, and other mechanical systems.
Performing Preventive Maintenance & Inspections: Execute routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks, and lubrication, to prevent breakdowns and ensure the reliability of vehicles and equipment.
Repairing Electrical Systems: Diagnose and repair electrical problems in heavy-duty vehicles, such as issues with wiring, lighting, starters, alternators, and batteries. Ensure electrical systems comply with safety standards and regulations.
Maintaining Records: Document all repairs, maintenance activities, and parts usage accurately and comprehensively. Keep detailed records of service histories for each vehicle or piece of equipment serviced.
Following Safety Procedures: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a secure working environment for yourself and your colleagues. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and follow proper procedures for handling hazardous materials.
Communicating with Team Members: Collaborate effectively with other members of the maintenance team, as well as supervisors and managers, to coordinate work tasks, share knowledge, and ensure efficient operations.
This job requires on-site presence; remote work is not available for this position.
All heavy-duty Diesel Mechanics must possess and bring their own set of personal hand tools and toolbox for the job position.
Proficiency in hands-on fabrication and welding skills is essential for tasks such as repairing damaged components, fabricating custom parts, and performing structural modifications on heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
